We were going to do an interview with Chris Charlton in the
UK about the Airsoft ban, but he passed away due to a heart
problem. More information can be found here.

We're glad to hear that John is back safe and sound from
the Big Sandbox. PLEASE NOTE, I said the episode was from
January 24, 2006, it was reall from February 24, 2006.

On the tear drop shape being the most aerodynamic, here is how

Lance,
I can only answer briefly. Essentially, the teardrop shape
is the lowest drag shape. That is why low speed airfoils
have that shape. I do not know much about rain drops. The
link you sent looks reasonable as to what their shape is
and what the relevant forces are (surface tension versus
aerodynamic pressure). The folks over in meteorology would
probably be able to comment more on the shape of rain drops.

That is just a really quick summary there. I hope that helps.

I know you guys are anxious for another show to be posted, but we'll probably end up posting a "Best Of" show this week. The pollen count here is crazy. I can't hardly talk because of it, and that isn't good news when you are trying to do a talk show. And Bill had his own set of problems--he was working in his yard pulling weeds and his eyes swelled shut because of the pollen (did I mention the pollen count is crazy here?) On a scale of 1-12 with 12 being the worst, it's been hovering around 10, and we're expecting to hit 10.7 by the middle of the week.

Anyway, I'll get something posted this week. If we recover we'll do a new show, if not I'll post an old show.

I was wondering why there were never any show comments, so thanks go to Scott for letting me know that there were comments, they just needed to be approved before they could be seen. I didn't think I had "Comment Moderation" turned on.

I went in and approved all the comments, and I changed the setting so comments show up without my approval. As long as nobody starts leaving Spam-like messages I'll keep it that way. I think people should be free to express themselves. But if people start abusing it with advertising then I'll have to moderate it to keep the ads out.

Thanks again Scott for bringing that to my attention.

Bill and I did an interview Friday night, and then I messed up and lost it due to technical difficulties. Then we continued to do a 1.5 hour show, and I was fortunate enough to repeat the interview on Sunday. So all combined it's about 2-2.5 hours.

We have a big and interesting show coming up, but I've got some editing to do and I've got a lot of work to do at my job. It may be a little while before the show is put out. But it is in the works.

Update:
Don't worry, Lance and Bill have not given up on the show.

Our intent was to have a show ready for release on July 2, 2006. Lance is experiencing some difficulties with his internet service, this has delayed production of this weeks show.

We should have things worked out by this coming weekend, even if we have to fall back on the old ambient recording method for a show. Lets hope that it doesnt come to that ;)

Imagine you're walking along, minding your own business, when suddenly you step on a bear trap. Nothing else is of any importance anymore. The only important thing becomes dealing with the pain, and trying to make the pain stop. You don't care about friends, you don't care about doing your taxes, you don't even worry about eating. That's how pain is.

I've been dealing with back pain now for years, but it's gotten to the point that I just can't function anymore. I reached the point that I'd pretty much do anything to make the pain stop. It's a bad situation to be in. Thankfully I'm starting to recover, but it's a long painful road to travel to get the paint to stop. And in the meantime I don't really feel like doing much. The doctor doesn't want me doing any Airsoft, he definitely doesn't want me doing any martial arts. I've got to just take it easy for a while, and I don't really like that.

Then Bill hurt his knee. He knocked a piece of bone off his leg about the size of a AAA battery, and it was floating around inside his leg. He had surgery on it, and they had to cut through a tendon to get it out. He's not feeling so hot either. Are we really getting that old? I guess so.

So enough feeling sorry for ourselves, to heck with the pain, let's just get a show out! If only it were so simple. It was about that time that the hard drive I store all the show files on decided to take a giant dump. How nice. What timing. I replaced the drive, but it was too big a drive, so I had to put in an IDE card. That killed my audio card. Fine, the drive can just be connected externally. I needed a new audio card anyway. The hardware is all in place and working, but it took some forensic work on the hard drive in order to get the data back. I got it back. Most of it anyway. And now it's automatically copied to a backup NAS drive on my network. No sense taking any chances.

I really wasn't in the mood to do all that work. I wasn't getting much Airsoft Radio e-mail, it was mostly a daily stream of "enlarge this" and "buy that" spam. I didn't really feel motivated to work on the show. But everything seems to be working again now, so we should be able to put a show out again.

Let's hope everything keeps working long enough to record a new show...

Yeah, I know... you want to know where we've been. I had a hard drive go out on one of the PC's I use for creating the show. I ran some utilities on it, decided it was going to be dead soon, then I was lucky enough to be able to back it up. Then I put a new drive in. In the process I accidently pulled some wires from the motherboard. I fixed that, then I determined that the IDE bus on my motherboard wouldn't handle that big a drive (after all, why not upgrade a little?) So I had to get a new card to handle the larger drive. The new drive worked for a few days, but now it's not doing too well (never again will I buy a "factory refurbished"drive.)

So the short story is that I'm going to buy a replacement drive and fix my PC and then we'll be back on the air, or Internet, or whatever you want to call it. But don't worry, we WILL be back soon. But that's OK, it's spring and you need to be out playing Airsoft, not listening to a show about Airsoft. So get out there and play, and let us know how it goes!

Where's the next show???

Well, due to some changes in Bill's work schedule, and my work load after coming back from vacation, we're a bit late getting this week's show out. We recorded the show this evening, then I got a message from Emilio at www.mindgame-productions.com and he was telling me about an Airsoft ban in Florida. So he was nice enough to join us for a quick emergency discussion on the ban. Yes, the potential for a ban is real. The Florida state government is trying to ban basically anything that even looks like a real gun. But they have hired a lobbyist and are working to help shape the law to keep their hobby safe. Good work guys!

I'll try to post the show by tomorrow night, so you'll hear more then. And I'll try to line up an in-depth interview about it on a later date. It sounds like they caught it just in time, and they seem to be doing a lot of work to keep Airsoft legal, so it should be an interesting and informative show--keep informed, it could happen where you live!

I got an e-mail a while back on the subject of having an AirsoftRadio web forum. My first reaction was "It's been done... and done, and done again." But I do see some merit to having a forum for discussing the content of specific shows. We're always up for trying something new, so I'm going to turn comments on. I've turned them on so anyone can comment. I'm turning on comment verification, so you'll have to type what you see in a box to keep out the Spambots, and if people think they can post pure advertisements here, think again--it's going to be moderated.

We'll give it a try for a while and see if it works. If it doesn't, then I'll turn it off and perhaps try something else.
